May 17–20, Xiamen China.
Our team spent May 17–20 in Xiamen at the 2nd Kulangsu International Emerging Arts Festival. The event was organized by curator Zhou Yihu, who used a model, where he spread activities across the city instead of keeping everything in one venue. For example, we visited Kulangsu island and Houtian Village in Tong'an District as part of the program.
Day two was an internal academic exchange. Tobias Zaft explained his installation process. Ding Yu from Beijing Film Academy discussed cinematography and visual effects. Science fiction writer Bao Shu presented his book *You Are Already in the Future* and talked about his work on *Three Body X*, the official follow-up to Liu Cixin's trilogy.
The schedule left room for informal networking. Shared dinners and coffee breaks turned into real discussions about art and creative work. The opening ceremony had live Chinese-English translation, which helped international guests connect.
Kulangsu itself mixes old architecture with local streets and music. Holding events across different locations made the festival feel connected to the city rather than separate from it.
For Sencha.lv, it was a solid look at how young creators work and build their careers and have a better understanding of Chinese culture and International Connections.
